The photograph shows that I am standing in the center foreground, smiling directly at the camera. Behind me, the Taj Mahal rises in full symmetry under a soft blue sky dotted with scattered clouds. Scaffolding surrounds part of the central dome, a reminder of ongoing conservation work. Visitors move through the gardens and pathways on both sides, capturing the everyday energy of one of the world's busiest heritage sites. The green T-shirt contrasts sharply with the white marble monument, drawing the eye to my position as both observer and participant in the space.

First Day of College

My first day at the college was a completely new experience for me. After deciding to pursue a degree in Journalism, I was allotted Maharaja Agrasen College by the Foreign Students’ Registry Office. In reality, I had very little prior knowledge about this institution. I initially assumed that the college would be located in North Campus, as the University of Delhi website mentioned it in that context. However, since it was an unfamiliar place, I brought someone along with me on the first day. Unfortunately, by the time I reached the college, it was already late around 5 p.m. and the security personnel did not allow me to enter, as visiting hours were over. They asked me to come the next day. Although the FSR Office had instructed me to meet the Principal directly, I contacted a Bangladeshi student I knew, and together we went to the Administration Office. There, with the help of a Bengali staff member, I completed all the admission formalities. After arriving at the college, I found the surrounding area quite pleasant. The campus has a large field, something many colleges under the University of Delhi do not possess. Students from various colleges often come here to play sports. The campus appeared spacious, and what stood out to me most was its peaceful environment, free from mechanical noise, because the college is situated within residential housing societies.

After completing my admission to the Journalism course, the Administration Office instructed me to contact the Teacher-in-Charge or the Head of the Department. I later reached out to him, and we had a brief but cordial introductory meeting. Gradually, I began meeting other teachers and trying to adapt to the college environment. Adjusting to a new setting came with its challenges, especially language, as most people speak Hindi, their mother tongue. For me, adapting to this linguistic environment was initially quite difficult; nonetheless, I have been trying to adjust since then. Moreover, the college does not have many foreign students, so the presence of an international academic atmosphere is still limited. However, I found the Principal to be extremely supportive; I have had personal conversations with him, and now new foreign students have also joined. I believe that, over time, the college will gradually develop a stronger international academic environment, attract more foreign students, and eventually become a foreign-student-friendly institution with improved rankings. The professors of the department seem highly qualified, and I feel there is much to learn from them. It is important for me to absorb as much knowledge as possible under their guidance and develop a strong understanding of journalism, which will be invaluable if I choose to pursue this profession in the future.

The Day Everything Felt New ,Including Me - by Palak Kasana

Starting college a week late wasn’t easy. I entered hesitantly, unsure of how I would fit into a space where everyone already seemed to know each other. Yet the environment was filled with a sense of opportunity, new faces, new hopes, and endless possibilities. Although nervous at first, I slowly opened up and found people I could genuinely connect with. Making a few friends on the very first day gave me the comfort I needed. By the end of the day, I realised that this late start was also a fresh beginning for me. It made me feel independent and more aware of the journey ahead. That day shaped my confidence and marked the moment I truly stepped into adulthood.

Music and its magic in my childhood

Music coloured my childhood long before I understood its magic.

These little moments — soft songs, simple rhythms — shaped more of me than I realised.

Some melodies stay with you forever.
